Celebrating International Volunteer Day
International Volunteer Day is celebrated every year on December 5 as a day to remind us of the importance of volunteering and contributing to the community and environment. We could say that every day is Volunteer Day for us because we are equally grateful for their hard work and efforts every day of the year.
On this special day, traditionally, NARKO-NE Association and the Older Brother, Older Sister Foundation organized a celebration on December 5, 2023 at the Skripta Idea-lab for all volunteers. The main goal of this gathering was to socialize, foster teamwork, and embrace a competitive spirit.
At the beginning of the event, participants were divided into teams and played a general knowledge quiz. The winning team received a symbolic prize that would serve as a memento of the gathering.
A special part of the event featured non-alcoholic cocktails prepared by the dedicated volunteers of Boombar, and two members of the winning quiz team, Iman and Kerim, shared their motivations for volunteering.
Iman Bradarac, a student at the Secondary Medical School Bjelave and a volunteer in the Boombar project, shared:
I want to primarily spread the knowledge I gain through this project and encourage my peers to start volunteering. Volunteering is not a waste of time but something that helps us develop as individuals. I’m particularly happy about winning the quiz tonight because we worked hard to be as involved as possible in the game.
During the social games and reflecting on past activities, we learned what motivated Kerim Babić, a student at the Second Gymnasium, to volunteer in Boombar and become part of this project, as well as his experiences during volunteering:
I can say that I’m really glad to be part of this project. I heard about it from the school counselor and decided to sign up immediately. I think I fit well into the team, especially since I’m the only man in this program. Volunteering is a great way to spend my free time, meet new people, have fun, and feel useful to the community.
We are extremely happy to say that we have a strong team of hardworking and active young people who selflessly give their time to volunteer, and that our family grows bigger each year. We are proud of our volunteers who are aware of their social responsibilities and who want to be the driving force for change. This day was of great importance to all of us, filled with happiness, smiles, friendship, and the satisfaction of doing something useful and worth attention.
