Regardless of their own views, parents need to know that their children do not need to and must not consume alcohol, at least before the age of eighteen. More than 70% of young people believe that their parents have the greatest influence on decisions about alcohol consumption. Therefore, the “You Have The Responsiblity)” campaign is specifically aimed at raising parents’ awareness of their responsibility and role in preventing alcohol addiction in children and young people, and informing them about what they can do to prevent their children from consuming alcohol, or generally to know how to protect their child from the risks associated with alcohol consumption, especially during the formative years. The main messages of the campaign are:
You need to start talking to children about alcohol sooner than you think;
Parents should have clear rules and not allow children to consume alcohol;
Minors are not allowed to buy alcohol, neither for themselves nor for others;
Alcohol should not be accessible to children in their homes.
The campaign is conducted by the Association for Addiction Prevention NARKO-NE within the RIPPO network (Development and Professionalization of Addiction Prevention) at the national level throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. More about the campaign at www.prevencija.ba.
