On 27 October 2026, a presentation and training session was held in Tuzla as part of the A Healthy Workplace for All<\/em> programme, organised by the Addiction Prevention Competence Centre<\/em> and the Institute for Public Health of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina<\/em>. The event brought together 26 participants representing healthcare institutions and social welfare institutions, with the aim of presenting opportunities to systematically improve employee health and safety through appropriate procedures and preventive measures in the workplace.<\/p>\n\n

The presentation particularly emphasised the importance of conducting regular medical check-ups more consistently, as they enable the early identification of symptoms and potential health problems and ensure appropriate care for employees. It was highlighted that protecting health in the workplace requires a continuous and structured approach, in which employers play an important role in creating safer working conditions and improving employee well-being. Addiction prevention is an important part of a comprehensive approach to workplace health. Problems associated with the use of alcohol and other psychoactive substances, as well as mental health difficulties, can affect employees\u2019 well-being, interpersonal relationships, work performance and occupational safety. It is therefore important to develop prevention programmes that, alongside information and education, promote the early identification of risks, reduce stigma and enable employees to access appropriate support.<\/p>\n\n

International recommendations for preventing problems associated with alcohol and other psychoactive substances emphasise the importance of developing organisational policies, educating employees and establishing procedures that enable the timely identification of risks and the provision of appropriate support. At the same time, guidance from the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work highlights the importance of systematic risk management and involving employees in improving the working environment. This approach recognises that prevention is not solely an individual responsibility, but also part of the broader responsibility of organisations to protect the health and well-being of their employees.<\/p>\n\n

In this context, the A Healthy Workplace for All <\/em>programme was presented as a framework supporting institutions, organisations and companies in establishing clear and systematic procedures to improve employee health. Through amendments to internal regulations and the implementation of the proposed guidelines, the programme provides an opportunity to better integrate preventive activities into the everyday operations of organisations, with clearly defined procedures and greater attention to employees\u2019 needs.<\/p>\n\n

Participants actively engaged in the discussion, sharing their experiences and offering concrete suggestions for implementing the programme in their respective institutions. Their participation and positive feedback on the presentation and training contributed to an exchange of ideas on how the proposed guidelines could be adapted to the actual needs of different workplaces.<\/p>\n\n

The training once again highlighted the importance of linking addiction prevention, the protection of physical and mental health, and the improvement of organisational practices. A healthy working environment is not created simply by establishing rules, but through continuous investment in the health, safety and well-being of the people who make it what it is. Systematic prevention and employee support are important steps towards more responsible, safer and more sustainable workplaces.<\/p>\n\n

Participation in training sessions delivered by the Addiction Prevention Competence Centre and the Institute for Public Health of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the first step towards implementing the A Healthy Workplace for All programme in the workplaces of participating companies and institutions. Implementing the programme does not incur additional costs for companies and institutions. The organisers provide informational and educational materials, professional support, and ongoing consultation and monitoring.<\/p>\n
